The artwork explores the loss of touch with one’s authentic self — a state a person is in at the beginning of their journey, before learning to defend themselves, doubt and conform to expectations.

Instead of seeing their current reflection in the mirror — a symbol of self-awareness and encounter with oneself — the view sees an image from the past: a little girl, the original self.

The selected form creates a sense of fragility and inaccessibility. This “self” seems to lie beneath layers of time and experience, yet still exists within.

The artwork reminds us of the importance of not losing this part of ourselves and of the possibility of returning to it — not literally, but through love and remembrance.
